Special Scholarships
Dr. Diana Walton Scholarships
Our club received the funds for a new scholarship in 2022. Mr. William Walton donated $15,000 in memory of his wife Dr. Diana Walton, who was on the faculty of Nipissing University. As a result of this generous donation, for the next 15 years beginning in 2022-23, CFUW will be presenting a worthy recipient attending Nipissing University with a $1000 scholarship.
In August 2025 Mr. Walton donated an additional $6000 to the scholarship to increase the annual amount to $1500 for the next 12 years starting in 2025.
You can read more about the Dr. Diana Walton Scholarship and the special media event on September 16, 2022, that launched it. There are also photos and names of the winners and their thank-you letters.
Terry Blair Memorial Scholarships
In 2024 CFUW North Bay set up the Terry Blair memorial scholarship with the Children's Aid Society of District of Nipissing and Parry Sound. A $2000 scholarship will be awarded annually for five years to a deserving female student attending Nipissing University or Canadore College. The 2024/2025 successful applicant will be presented her scholarship in the spring of 2025 by the CAS board of directors. The identity of this very deserving young woman will be protected.
Indigenous Teacher Education Award
A one-time Indigenous Teacher Award of $500 has been set up with Nipissing University to show our appreciation to Senator Mary Jane McCallum for her very informative presentation to our club in January 2025. This scholarship will be awarded during the 2025/26 in-course award cycle.
